Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport Serves the Panama City Beach Area

Located just north of Panama City Beach, Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) serves the area from South Walton to Apalachicola. Two airlines, Delta and Southwest, offer 19 non-stop daily flights to six U. S. destinations. With cheap flights, major car rental companies and other ground transportation available, this new aviation facility is helping to bring more people to the region.

The airport opened in May 2010 and was the first to be built after 9/11. It came about through the need to expand the existing airport which was across West Bay in an environmentally sensitive area where a simple expansion was not possible.

In 2001, the St. Joe Company, one of Florida’s largest Real Estate development companies and the largest land owner in Northwest Florida, agreed to donate 4000 acres for the new airport. The company owns 75,000 acres on the north side of the bay designated for mixed-use development. The remaining 71,000 acres are being developed and include an 85,000 square-foot industrial park to be built adjacent to the airport.

Designed to be the nation's first LEED Certified Green airport, the facility makes extensive use of sustainable construction materials and the landscaping around the terminal doesn’t require an irrigation system. The 120,000 square foot terminal includes a 16,000 square foot baggage handling area that is the most technically advanced, and the most secure, in the world.

With a 10,000-foot runway, the airport is capable of landing large aircraft in anticipation of future charter and international flights to the area. Currently Southwest Airlines flies Boeing 737 aircraft and Delta Airlines flies MD-88 and CRJ airplanes to and from the airport.

Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is located off State Highway 388 about half way between State Road 79 to the west and State Road 77 to the east.
