Christmas Tree Farms in Northwest Florida

Did you know there are Christmas tree farms in Northwest Florida? There are - quite a few in fact - offering a wide variety of trees that happily grow in the North Florida climate and soils.

I first learned about Southern tree farms many years ago when one Christmas my family and I decided to go out to a local farm and cut our own tree.

My British mother-in-law, who was visiting for the holidays, thought we were crazy, with all three girls running in different directions all over the place, each finding a special tree to love.

Hunting for the perfect Christmas tree 1991

Every time they declared their find to be "the perfect tree," they suddenly spotted another one a few yards away and THAT became the NEW perfect tree. It took us an hour and a half to settle on one tree, but the memories we have of that day have lasted for over 20 years.

So, whether you want to choose and cut your own tree, or are looking for a living rooted tree to plant after the holidays, area Christmas tree farms offer a fun family outing. Some of the farms feature gift shops so you can buy your tree and decorate it all in one fell swoop. Some have special events like visits from Santa, hay rides, and other family activities as well as snacks and sweet treats.

Many of these Christmas tree farms provide saws, twine, netting and other things to help you get your tree from the field to your living room. Some will even let you pick out your tree and will cut it for you, which is great if you are saw-challenged like I am.

Northwest Florida Christmas tree farms can be found in Pensacola, Tallahassee and points in between. Times listed below are all Central Time unless otherwise indicated, but it's best to call ahead and make sure the farm is open and that they have the type of tree you want, as well as what type of payment they accept. Some farms don't take credit cards. Also, ask if they have picnic facilities or bathrooms so you can plan your day accordingly.

Christmas Tree Farm Photo Gallery

Our family recently visited a farm, this time with granddaughters there to enjoy the hunt. Either I am more calm or it was less crazy, but we still spent an hour and a half. This time the hunt included playing games, seeing Santa, inspecting trees, enjoying a hayride and finding the Perfect Tree to cut and bring home. It was a wonderful family day.
