Tallahassee Airport Serves
the Florida Capital Area

In 1929, the first Tallahassee airport opened. Called Dale Mabry Field after the famed World War I aviator and Florida native, it was a municipal facility with one grass landing strip. In 1938, the United States Army established a fighter pilot training school on the site, constructing three runways and significantly expanding the facility, which served the area for more than 30 years.

Then, in 1961, Dale Mabry Field was abandoned when a new facility was built southwest of the city. This second Northwest Florida air field operated until December 3, 1989 when the current airport was opened next to it. Today the Tallahassee Regional Airport serves the Florida state capital and surrounding areas, offering direct service to Miami, Dallas/Fort Worth, Tampa, Orlando, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta, Memphis, and Charlotte.

Located on 2,743 acres seven miles southwest of the city's central business district and within the corporate city limits, the airport is owned and operated by the City of Tallahassee. With a total impact of more than $377 million annually, TLH economic activity supports over 3,960 jobs.

In 2010, the airport was awarded the Florida Airports Council (FAC) Environmental Excellence Award, recognizing Tallahassee Regional Airport for its use of Sustainable Construction Practices in the rehabilitation of its North General Aviation Apron. TLH offers general aviation, air cargo and freight, and commercial air service from American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, and US Airways Express.
