Hard to tell who was more surprised, me or the bird.
One day soon there will be a house instead of trees.
Churchill Bayou is such a peaceful spot
Sunday morning October 23, 2011 was just so perfect, and my truck was parked right under the kayak in the car port, so I just had to get on the water.
Cessna Landing is a perfect spot to put in and Churchill Bayou is a perfect distance to paddle for about an hour and a half trip. It is the least spoiled of the bayous around Hogtown although there is now a development going in on the west side that will eventually change that. They have built a big clubhouse and pool, right on the northwest corner and if you look carefully as you paddle the western side, you can see where the utilities have been installed amongst the oaks, cypress and pines where one day houses will take the place of a lot of those beautiful mature trees.
There are two creeks running into Churchill. Neither goes very far before being blocked by fallen trees or shallow water, but as I came round the corner of the one on the western side, I surprised a small gray/brown wading bird. It was hard to tell which of us was more surprised as we stared at each other before she slipped away into the reeds.
